Hvorfor flua (og mange andre insekter) kan gå på vegger og i tak er et veldig godt spørsmål.

Noen mener faktisk at denne egenskapen er noe av nøkkelen til insektenes suksess i å kolonisere hele landjorda med millioner av arter! Slike insekter har flere tilpasninger som gjør at de ikke faller ned, hør bare her:

De har mange små hår på undersiden av føttene. Hårene skiller ut et klebrig stoff som gjør at fluene uten problem kan gå opp ned. Når den spenner hårene for å lette igjen, kommer det luft mellom overflaten og hårene, slik at den raskt kan slippe taket. En del insekter som flue, mange veps og biller, har som regel to kvasse klør ytterst på hver fot som hjelper de å holde seg fast på blader eller kvister når det blåser friskt ute. Ei flue har også svært liten egenvekt. Derfor skal det ikke mye til for at den sitter fast i taket. Biller, derimot, er noe tyngre. Men mange av disse har svært brede føtter, og dermed er det plass til mange flere slike klebrige hår som gjør at de holder seg godt fast på tross av tyngden.

En annen ting som forskerne har lurt på er hvordan flua kan lande i taket når den ikke flyr opp ned? Svaret er: Dette gjør den ved å løfte frambeina over hodet og ta en baklengs salto slik at de andre fire beina også fester seg i taket. Følg med på husflua hjemme hos deg.
